‘Operation Perilous Magnetism’

Book Illustration for Operation Perilous Magnetism by Andrew Evennett

An adventure novel for young readers, following five teenagers as a summer in the Scottish Highlands takes an unexpected turn involving a lost iPhone, a local wind farm and suspected industrial espionage.

My first full book illustration project, I was commissioned to create the visual world of Operation Perilous Magnetism, from the front and back covers to 35 hand-drawn chapter headings and a series of detailed maps charting the story's Highland setting.

The illustrations were created by hand in pen and wash, combining detailed observational drawing with a sense of adventure and discovery to complement Andrew Evennett's story.

“A real fun adventure story… with a tremendous cast of characters and settings brought to life by the illustrations.”

— Reader review, Operation Perilous Magnetism

The 3 Maps…

Three illustrated maps were created to help navigate the story, moving from a wider view of the Scottish Highlands into increasingly detailed views of the places and events within the story. Each map combines real geography with fictional elements from the novel.
